You’ve got to find what you love - A few words about Steve Jobs

Hi Everyone!!! :)
This is about a small story that I want to share. But is one of the best I’ve read so far.
It is the story of a person who doesn’t have a bachelor degree but has become a multi billionaire.
It is a story of a person who was flushed out of the company that he created, but was again made its CEO for the success he earned even after thrown out.
It is a story of a person with vision, zeal and who always did what he loved.
Bringing before you – The story of STEVE JOBS – CEO, Apple Computers & Pixar Animation Studios.
( Inspired from his Biography – “Icon” & from his speech to the students of Stanford University on12.6.05).
Before getting into the story, I would like to ask u two questions:
1. How many of us really love and enjoy what we do in our routine? Is it by dedication we are doing something or is it some obligation that is forcing us to do?
2. Are you happy with what you are getting? Have you ever thought of what makes you happy? If so, did u ever try to make a step towards achieving it?
Well, if your answer is yes, then my friends, this story is dedicated to all the people who stand for this idea.
Let’s get started.
Like most of us, Steve Jobs was a person, from a middle class background. He had no interest in education. In teenage, he was a person who has little morals. He never understood his family. Studies never interested him.
He started pursuing his graduation in Reed College, Pennsylvania at 17. He had no idea of what to do with his life and no idea how college was going to help him figure that. And there he was spending all the money his parents saved their entire life. One day, on account of his misconduct in Reed College, he’d be asked not to attend the classes thereafter. That was the last time he attended a college. At that time, he has no money, no degree & no vision.
But there is always one thing that always interested him. “Computer”.
One day he meets Woznaik (co-founder of Apple) who was 10 years senior to him. Woznaik was a genius. He was a fundoo. But he used to lag the marketing skills which always made him to work in small projects and companies. He used to experiment a lot on computers and he even had an idea to build a computer.
So, when steve was 20, after a hell lot of hurdles, Woz and Jobs establish “Apple” with hardly 10 employees. Woz used to make the computers and Jobs mostly took care of the marketing and innovation. Sheer dedication & hard work made apple become a 2 billion dollar enterprise in 10 years with strength of 4000 employees.
Jobs is now famous. He is a billionaire. He is a celebrity. His company is a huge success. Do anybody need more in life?
Unfortunately, like for everybody, life is not always a bed of roses and so is not for Steve Jobs.
Though he used to work very hard and even though he has bright ideas, Jobs was always demanding, Instructive and greedy with his employees. This attitude started causing problems to Apple. The Board of Directors observed this. Eventually, something happened in America that never took place in the country’s history. The famous co-founder of one of the largest enterprises in the world was “SACKED OUT”.
There are thousands of cameras waiting outside his residence to know what happened. Millions of people waiting for the news papers and TV channels to broadcast the internal conflict between Jobs and Apple.
At this point of time, can you guess what was there in the mind of Steve jobs? Difficult.
For a few months, he didn’t know what to do. It was a public failure. And he was described as a maniac.
But slowly, something began to dawn on him. He still loved what he did. He still loved what he did for the company. After all it is his company. It is his baby. The turn of events at apple has not changed that one bit. HE LOVED HIS JOB. HE LOVED WHAT HE DID. He loved the way he nurtured Apple. So, he decides to start over AS A BEGINNER. Again. He thinks “If I was ableto do this once, can’t I do it one more time?”
Friends,Our Life is like this. Sometimes it hits us with a brick. Don’t lose faith. Keep doing what you love. You’ve got find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you have not found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it.
And, like any great relationship it gets better and better as the years roll on. So, keep looking till you find it.
Coming back to Steve Jobs, during the next 5 years, he starts a company named NeXT and another company called PIXAR. Pixar went on to create the world’s first animated feature film The Toy Story. Then came lots from PIXAR. The incredible, Cars, and recently Wall –E. All blockbusters earning millions of dollars worldwide. Eventually making Steve Jobs a multi Billionaire AGAIN. In course of time, Apple bought NeXT and because of his excellence, Steve Jobs was again made the CEO of Apple.
Sounds very good doesn’t it? But that’s not the end of the story. Still there is something to be told. Just like movies where the hero will face a lot of hurdles but finally will fight with the bad guys, wins over them and marries the Heroine. Here also thngs are the same. But this is not a movie friends. This is hard core reality that I’m talking about. It’s about life. A life of a person whom the world salutes today. It is about his journey to success.
Well, Apple when Steve becomes the CEO again was not in a great condition. With the fail of Macintosh due to the advent of Windows, Stocks were stumbling. Shareholders, investors and funding organizations were vexed with the little profits the company is making. They need a change and Steve is determined to bring it. He wants a turnaround. He hardly can see his company failing. With his best efforts, he starts finding the all the possible ways to make his loved one better.
Then comes the HISTORIC IDEA OF I-POD to Steve’s team. This single idea makes Apple jump into the top 25 companies in the Fortune 500 list. The invention changes the face of Apple dramatically. Stocks gain almost 10 times. Apple is back into the market again.
This is called Happiness. The pursuit of happiness rather. From that day till today, apple was never down. It is one of the most respected organizations ever.
Sorry that I had to condense the story a lot. But I want to convey one point. Some words of Steve jobs.
“No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don’t want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And it is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention in life. It is life’s change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you’ll gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but is quite true.
Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma - which is living with the result of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of other people drown on your own inner voice. And the most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know who you truly want you become. Everything else is secondary”.
So, be happy. Take care. All the best. “Live your life to the fullest”.
I’ll also try doing the same.
And please do post your sincere comments once you read this. I’d be grateful to receive them.
Thank you.
